The Urantia Book

The Urantia Book consists of a Foreword and 196 numbered “Papers.” Each

Paper is divided into numbered sections, and each section is divided into numbered

paragraphs. The reference system locates a passage using three numbers to identify

its Paper, section, and paragraph, similar to the way Bible verses are located by

Book, chapter, and verse.

For example, 185:3.5 refers to Paper 185, section 3, paragraph 5. The Foreword

is numbered as Paper 0; likewise, the introductory statement at the beginning of

each Paper is numbered as section 0. The locators printed at the top outside page

margin indicate the first full paragraph on the page on left-hand pages, and the last

paragraph on the page on right-hand pages.

For convenient cross-referencing, small pointers (<, >) placed between the text

columns locate page breaks in the single column printings of The Urantia Book, with

the associated single column page number(s) printed in small type at the bottominside page margins.
